Hi, i've been monitoring my cpu temp with several software apps on windows 10 pc, on CPUID HWMonitor it has peaked at over 100c and over 200c when i have left the program running but the pc has not automatically shut down, should it?

Solution

With...
It should shut down at ober 200C.... But i also think that your pc wouldve been dead at that point.
What different software did you use beside hwmonitor?

Does is tell the same in the Bios?

Could you tell us, what hardware you are using?

I also used AMD Overdrive. But did not notice any of the extreme peaks in temp there. I alsi thought the cpu would be broken if it really had reached that temp.

It is a amd fx8350 chip and a asus m5a78l. I have been testing it with this new cpu for about a week and only just started getting spikes in temp in cpuid hwmonitor.

I left it running so did not actually see the peak in temp, i just saw it when i loomed at the cpu min max temps.

In bios the temp was normal when i looked, about 40c, but like i say i did not witness the rise in temp from the usual 40c to >100 >200c just the max temp it recorded but only in hwmonitor not amd overdrive. Dont know whats happening!

Thanks fir all the help n advice much appreciated.

With these older AMD CPUs, Software like HWMonitor often tents to misread the temperatures.
Use Amd Overdrive and completly ignore other software!
