Hello,

I was wondering with the new RTX 2070,2080, and 2080ti will you need a new motherboard to fully utilize the graphics card? With using GDDR6 I have heard this may be true. I couldnt really find anything online about it, but I found threads that said when it went from GDDR4 to 5 you needed a new one.

Thanks for the help in advance,

Kaleb

Solution
No, you wont need a new motherboard just for the next gen of GPUs.
Whatever info you were reading was incorrect, considering GDDR4 never existed, it went from GDDR3 to GDDR5, and there were no issues.

memory type of gpu has nothing to do with motherboard - GDDR is isolated to the Video card itself and is specifically optimized for use on the video cards , only thing motherboard needs is pci-e slot 16x
