I have a perfectly working setup. Recently I decided to buy an SSD. I bought myself the Samsung 960 evo and installed it. When I started the computer and entered the BIOS the SSD was there but my previous HDD was nowhere to be found. When I remove the SSD my HDD magically appears back. Send help :C

Solution

No.
It depends on what m.2 port you're using, and which SATA port you're using.

For instance...use of one of the m.2 ports with a PCIe x4 SSD turns off SATA port 0, 1, 2, 3. use of the other m.2 port leaves all 6 SATA ports available..
Use of a PCIe x2 SSD turns on and off other SATA ports.

Read your user manual.

The 960 is an m.2 drive?
Usually, use of an m.2 drive turns off one or more SATA ports on the motherboard.

What motherboard is this? We can tell if this is the case.
Usually, just connecting that HDD in a different port fixes the issue.

It means that if you want them to work at the same time, you will have to plug the HDD into a non-shared port.

Despite the fact that the 960 EVO is NVMe-only, many motherboards will shut off the SATA port associated with the M.2 if anything is plugged in there.
