My PC:
core i7 4790
8 GB ram
1 TB HDD
GTX 950 graphic card
H81-C Motherboard

So my question is regarding my next upgrade, should I buy an ssd and 8 GB RAM or should I go ahead and get a graphic card upgrade (considering gtx 1070 or wait for upcoming rtx)
I want to use it to play games on 1080p medium or high. (my current pc plays most games at 1080 medium)

Solution
Graphics card and ram first. Graphics card currently is weak link in your system. That needs to be upgraded first. GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1070 ti - all would be great upgrade options. Ram needs to be upgraded also, because 8GB is not enough for gaming several years already.

SSD is not essential, but you should get that too.
If you decide to wait for Geforce RTX cards, then you may need to wait unspecified amount of time. May be several months.

For 1080p@60fps a 1060 6gb should be enough. That leaves money for ram and a cheap sata ssd for your boot drive.

Maybe prices on the 10 series might drop further. So it could make sense to wait a little. Upgrading to a ssd is a must!

Compared to the GTX 950, even a GTX 1060 6GB card is a huge upgrade, for less than $300. It will run most games at high or ultra quality levels at 1920x1080. The GTX 1070 is overkill at that resolution. Personally, I'd get the GTX 1060 6GB card and use the savings to upgrade my C: drive to an SSD (500GB Samsung EVO or Crucial MX500).

That i7 4790 is still a great processor. If I were you, I would wait until the 2000 series graphics cards launch. Then pick up a used gtx 1080ti on eBay. Right now they are around $500 which is an amazing price. You'll be able to probably beat that price when the 2000 series launches. And if you can get a 1080ti that cheap, just image how much you'd have to spend on just a 1070 or 1080. As long as your games or demands don't exceed 8gb, then it's not imperative to upgrade the memory.

Your best bet is to change to an ssd. Your gpu is capable of 1080p and 8 gigs of ram is still relevant. You can monitor ram usage in task manager if you think its an issue then upgrade if necessary but keep in mind a new gpu after your ssd upgrade will come with more vram of its own, giving you additional space when gaming. An ssd is about 25-30x faster at random reads and writes. By comparison you can launch windows to desktop in 15 seconds instead of 60+ with a 7500rpm hdd. Place windows and your fav games on the ssd and videos, music, pics and older games on the 1tb hdd you have. Also keep in mind gpu pricing is beginning to normalize and next month when the 20 series becomes available they will drop further meaning you will get more for your money down the road a couple months where as ssd's are price stable. The 500gig pny drive is only 90 on amazon!

I still use a i7 4790 with a gtx 1080ti , i still get over 100 fps on bf1 1440p @ 144hz . I recently upgraded to a samsung evo 860 500gb ssd . Amazed how much of a difference it has made to my rig!
SSD's all the way !

Depending on where you are, SSDs are cheap right now. I can buy a new 120gb SSD for my OS and one 50gb game for around $30. You don't have to buy a Samsung Evo to get the benefits of SSDs.

You also could get good use out of a 1060.

I'd hold off on the extra ram until you have proven you need it. I guarantee you'll benefit from the videocard and SSD no matter what. I can't say the same about extra ram.

edit: If you can wait, and the RTX cards intrigue you, then wait. You might end up passing on buying one, but that's okay. There is no need to spend the money unless you need something right now.

More info needed first.
what games do you play? What monitor do you have (60/120Hz Gsync)- that makes a BIG difference on what you could buy to have an effect on your gameplay experience.
