Hi,

I have an
8700k & Corsair H80 (v1 I believe)
ASRock z370 Taichi

I know this isnt a great cooler but it is what we have for the moment, what sort of overclock should I be aiming for with this cooler or is it not even worth it?

I can prime95 on blend with no OC set and I got this
https://imgur.com/mz9edas
which seems pretty weird to me

I also went into BIOS and manually set all cores to 4.8GHz and 1.2V and it didnt crash ( I didnt get a screenshot) but 2 or 3 of the cores weren't at 100% they were down below 30%.
Which numbers are the real cores and which are the hyper threading ones? If it was all perfect shouldn't they all be at 100%

Thanks

Ih slippyjim. No problems at all.. On the Prime95 version 26.6, it is the version recommended by Intel and others due to the AVX instruction set not being active and provides a more realistic loading on the CPU for Intel.

Remember the Prime95 test well and truly goes beyond pretty much anything that you will normally do with your CPU. Lots of threads and comments on the good and bad but I stick with it usually doing a one hour run (others do 24 hour...I cannot be bothered to do that!!!!) and use AIDA and finally a loop of Cinebench to make sure my overclock is stable.

In all my time, after I have done those tests following a overclock for stability, I have never had an issue..
The H80 is not the best but then again, its not bad either. The blend test was fine and the temps look good. All I would say is so long as you are under 80 degrees C for an all core overclock in a stress test like Prime95 version 26,6 and Aida, then you are fine so star at 4.8 and work your way up. All the while trying to be stable at the lowest vcore possible. 5GHz on most 8700K's require over 1.3v..mine needs 1.345v but I have settled for a 4.9GHz all core at 1.278v

You should easily be able to do 4.8GHZ and maybe even 4.9GHz before temps become an issue...you can try for 5GHz but temps over 90 are not good. Just trial and error until you get a happy medium.
