I recently purchased a new system which came with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. So far I'm very happy with the performance but in the future I want to install a second card for some added horsepower. The motherboard I have is fully SLI capable and even came with the SLI bridge and my power supply is 750 Watts. That being said do only certain games take advantage of SLI mode? Also do two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti running in SLI mode give you better performance than NVIDIA's latest and greatest single cards configuration?

Thanks for the help

Solution
SLI support has to be implemented by the game developer. Most games support SLI meaning the game will run with with two cards in SLI, however games with poor SLI support may not perform much better in SLI versus a single card. Or worsen frame times even though FPS average is higher in SLI, which can introduce stuttering. And many other potential issues. If you are someone who expects games to run well without any tinkering SLI may not be fore you, it's more for enthusiasts who can deal with or work around problems SLI can cause in many modern games.

I am personally going to stick to single cards from now on. But if you know that the games you play properly support SLI then two 1070 ti's can deliver more performance than a single 1080...

Solution
Agree with Dunlop0078 +^ would add that the best advice is to always go with most powerful single card option you can. It rules out most of the issues as Dunlop has outlined.

Sell your GTX1070, put the money you were gonna spend on a second one with it and get an RTX2070 or GTX1080ti. You will enjoy the experience more.

I've had two GTX 980's in SLI for a few years now and honestly it was a big mistake to buy a second 980. There are many games that do not support SLI outright. Many of the games that do support SLI support it poorly. Some have good support though (such as GTA V) but those are rare now. So you will essentially have the other 1070ti collecting dust most of the time for a pretty high price. I would get your fill out of the 1070ti and then sell it and get the most powerful single card you can afford like the others have mentioned. The only exception I could see would be if you really only played a few games that support sli really well. However, that's still not much future proofing.

With your 1070, I feel selling/gifting it for a 1080TI would be a very good upgrade, I am a SLI user have been for many years and I guess I have been fortunate as I just don't run into the issues many say they had, but SLIing 2 1070s is not the best tech you can get 1080TIs at good prices and soon better I am sure.
