I’m building my pc soon and wondering do I have to over lock it straight away if I want it done or can I wait until whenever I want?

Well not to be mean but I definitely think you need to do some more research on overclocking before you try it if you are even asking this question. Read some OC guides or watch some videos, there are a ton out there.

You can overclock your PC whenever you want, there is no time limit on it lol. It's your hardware.

Depends on you. Are you familiar with all the headache and troubleshooting that comes with it? If yes, go ahead. Free boost.

It's your PC. You could let the next generation overclock for education purposes if you still have it.:)

What do you have in mind anyway? Maybe we could give some advices/recommendations.

Curious statement of presumed fact. I tend to think overclocking is actually fairly safe on modern hardware as what happens is the system goes unstable and crashes way before 'harm' is done. You might say it's designed to work that way.

To be sure, you may reduce that 30 year processor theoretical design life by half. But who keeps any computer around 15 years, not only overclocked but operating 24/7 at performance limits, to find out? Personally I believe catastrophic failure, when it does happen, isn't directly due to overclocking itself but much more so due to inadequate and/or poorly installed CPU/GPU cooling and case ventilation.
