Attempted to install a new GPU, Display is Black on Boot up

Ive seen a few threads like these but all of the threads and there advice hinged on the fact that those people could still boot up their PC without the new GPU installed. Ive tried installing a new GTX 1080 FTW (I was assured, and doubled checked that it was compatible with my system) and the old GPU was a GTX 760 Windforce.

I made sure to discharge all my static as I slowly spent my time transferring my setup from a very old second-hand case into a sliiightly bigger and brand new case. Everything fit so nice and perfect! It looked solid, I double checked my how too videos when it came to plugging everything back in and making sure they were plugged back in properly. All my headers are oriented properly, i got all 16 pins of this beast of a GPU card plugged in, the GPUs were always seated securely and fully in the slots, etcetc...

However when I tried to start it up the display remained completely black, Im not even sure it actually made it too the bios boot up phase. My monitor just lit up a bit and flashed between "HDMI--ANALOG" back n forth a couple times before it simply stops and shuts down, then proceeds to infinitely try to boot up to 0 success.

I tried searching here on the forums first for a solution and the only mistake I can see that I mightve made is that I forgot to uninstall the previous drivers but ive also read that that isnt the end of the world.... I tried putting in my old GPU: no dice! Suddenly that one isnt working either; I tried booting up with NO GPU installed (my hdmi plugged directly into the mobo) again no start up, only a black display. The most common solution given was to boot up from the mobos on board graphics and uninstall all the graphics drivers but that remains my biggest issue, I cant even start up and get to safe mode!

Im really at a loss and by and far, no expert. My original build was made 4 years ago and it worked without a hitch so Im not so good at troubleshooting my stuff....

Specs for the curious:

Gigabyte g1 Sniper z87 MoBo
2x8 Ares G. Skill RAM
EVGA Supernova 850 G3 PSU

the original GPU was a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 Windforce
the new GPU is a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW

Solution
Start by breadboarding, (assembling the pc outside of the case with motherboard on a cardboard box) could be something is grounding out somewhere.
Start without the gpu, see if you can boot on integrated graphics first.

How do I do that if my computer cannot start up, what about all my stuff on my PC? I was not prepared to lose all that.

Might be a long shot, but have you reset the CMOS? If it all goes back to default, it might solve your bootup problem at least.
Remove the button battery on the mobo for a few minutes, and replace, then try booting up using the onboard gpu.
