Hi guys,
I want to build a 4k gaming system but i keep coming back to what cpu manufacturer i should take? amd VS intel. Its only a gaming system so no editing or anything like a big work load just an overkill gaming system.now what cpu is going to get everything out of the 1080ti i am going to put in there.i am going to be playing 4k only so curious to see what is best.i know intel has better single core performance so i lean torch intel more since i am not going to need much power for editing or anything like that.its pure a gaming rig.also budget and cooling is not a problem for me

Solution
8700k is the way to go for gaming.
or if you can wait then new soldered i7/9 will be even better as my 8700k runs hot due to toothpaste thermal paste that intel used ( using ekqb custom loop with 1x360 + 1x240 rad) 4.7ghz is max i get if i want to keep it below 70'c for most of the task other than stress testing ( if i aim for 5ghz then temps aim for temps at surface of sun).

Why those two? They are in a different price range. The 8700k and 2700x would be a better comparison.

To answer your question I would expect the i7 8700k to outperform a 1600x in any good comparison of cpu performance. However in most games at 4k they will perform near identically, you would need to play at 1080p or maybe 1440p in some games to see any real difference between those two game performance.

Oke yeah i checked my setup, and yeah either going with a 2700x or a i7 8700k.I just want to know what cpu is really going to give max performance while overklocked as high as possible. Not really giving a damn what cpu is a better buy or anything like that.So far thank you for your solutions guys.

Well at 4k in games it is just not going to matter much, either of those CPU's will likely perform identically with or without an overclock. I probably wouldn't overclock either of those CPU's if I was gaming at 4k, it's just not going to do anything for you.

When at 4k so much of the load is going to be on the GPU you wont be able to get enough fps out of your game in order to put significant load on the CPU. This is mostly true at 1440p in most games, nevermind 4k.

If gaming at 4k, benchmarks certainly show that since the GPU is now fully the limiting factor, the 2600/2600X, 2700X, and the I5-8400 and up all score pretty much the same framerates...(i.e., additional CPU power past that point essentially unusable...)

Although I suspect results will be similar once the 2080/2080Ti hits, but, no one knows for sure just yet, outside of Nvidia's labs anyway...
