Hi I just moved into a townhouse and am sharing wifi with 5 other people. Everything has been fine so far for our phones, tvs, laptops, ect but my buddy and I are using wifi adapters for our desktops and getting horribly slow download speeds. Like I said sometimes my laptop is getting up near 50Mbps download/12Mbps upload and my desktop (and his) are both getting under 2Mbps download/with a similar upload of around 12Mbps like the laptops. Both my laptop and the desktop speeds were tested in the exact same location. The router is on the first floor with my room and my friends on the second floor.

My laptop is a Lenovo Yoga i5 7th gen laptop and my desktop is a i7 4770K custom build desktop with a GTX 1080 Ti. The desktop is using a BrosTrend AC1200 wireless dual band usb adapter as it does not have a custom wifi card built into it. Both the laptop and desktop are running Windows 10.

I am not sure the specs on my roomates desktop but his is pretty good too also used for gaming. I just cannot imagine how the download speed on the laptop is so incredibly faster than the desktop.

EDIT: After running an Ethernet cable up the whole ceiling of the house into the second floor I am getting around 53Mbps which is around 6.5MB/s when actually downloading so it seems fine now. Also after only one day that WiFi adapter died on me so I would highly not recommend buying it.
