Hi I am looking to buy new DDR3 ram for Desktop system but I am not well informed on buying RAM.
I was using mushkin ram for last 8 years but one RAM is died so I want to replace both.
Mushkin Blackline I have 2 * 4GB
pc3l - 12800 - 9-9-9-24 1.35v

Here are my specs:
Intel Core i5 - 6500( Non K version ),
Motherboard - Asus H170 - Plus - D3 Link To manufacturer

I am thinking to buy Kingston fury but if you guys could help to buy best(performance) RAM as I have to run Microsoft visual studio (Most resource hungry thing ever created) and other development heavy stuff + High end Gaming.

If you guys need any other information please let me know in comment.

Thanks for help in advance.

Well you can buy pretty much whatever you want if you are replacing the memory. You had lower voltage DDR3, but you can still go up to 1.5 volt memory, which should give you access to 1866 and 2133 speeds. Not having an unlocked CPU limits you somewhat and really that is a DDR4 CPU.

But regardless. Since it is locked, this is what I recommend. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nBCwrH/patriot-memory-pv38g160c9k

That or 16GB of roughly the same.

This ram not available in my country. How about going with Kingston Fury or corsair vengeance ? Do I have to care about CL and Mhz combination.

Well, your CPU is likely going to limit you to 1600. Not a problem to go with faster memory though, you may just have to set the speeds manually. But really DDR3 1600 is about where the 1.5 volt memory stops. There will be a few 1866 kits, but I don't think your CPU will let you run them.

Lower CL/CAS is good, so a CAS of 8 at 1600 is going to be slightly better than 9 at 1866, but much better than 11 or 13 at 1600. Though for absolute bandwidth you do want the higher frequency. Only real limit you have is voltage. i5-6500 was built for DDR4, so it doesn't support the same voltage range as older DDR3 CPUs. 1.5 is the maximum voltage. Many of the high speed DDR3 kits run at 1.65 volts.

How much performance impact I would have if I switch to DDR4 motherboard ?

Marginal. DDR4 2400 is what the CPU supports, but with a CAS of 15 or 16. So until you could potentially double the speed, DDR4-3200, you lose out a lot on latency, but bandwidth would be better.

I'm not sure how useful memory bandwidth is to compiling in VS (which would vary by the project), but for games the impact is only a few percent. For large VS projects I suspect having more memory is more important than having faster memory.

So to some up any of these rams would do justice. 1600 with CAS 9 240 PIN.
