Hi everyone, I'm sorry to bring this dead horse to the arena but even after scanning what felt like hundreds of similar threads, I still couldn't find a situation exactly like mine or any suggestions that helped. I'm trying not to panic, but this computer is my livelihood and I have four (4!) deadlines coming up. Anyone willing to help will be a hero.
Alright, so here's the experience. Yesterday I shut down my 8 month old computer as normal, nothing weird had occurred, all was good. This morning I turned it on (to make a payment on it funny enough) and got nothing but interior lights and fans running. The mouse had it's little lights going, and I can't say for sure if the keyboard is up but perhaps? (I checked and haven't seen lights on the motherboard, but I have literally never seen the lights on the motherboard so...?) I decided to reset, but the reset button did nothing. I held down the power button for about ten years and still nothing. So I used the switch. I went through this process a few times, never getting a beep but still hearing an otherwise healthy power up. (No grinding or clicking, just the usual initial half-second buzz.)
Seeing this not working, I went ahead and opened it up and (grounding myself of course) checked all the connections to no avail, then reseated the RAM to no avail, then reseated the whole damn video card also to no avail. I tried this a few times, blowing out dust (of which there was almost none, this thing is 8 months old) and even trying to boot without the ram and then trying without the video card. It's been forever since I've dabbled in computers so it's possible I did this section in a less than useful manner but I tried and would be glad to be corrected.
The only other information I can give that isn't panic-based is that for a few months now my monitor would suddenly go black for a second or two and then come back. The monitor itself wasn't turning off and on, I know that for sure (none of the associated sounds happen), the screen just wouldn't for a second. It didn't happen every day, some days it would happen more than once. I might say it happened more when I was ass-deep into some photoshop work but that is where I am most frequently so I can't exactly claim a pattern on that. I don't know if a dead monitor can cause this kind of boot up issue, I mean last I recall the monitor isn't included in the post and wouldn't take my precious beep from me, right?
Thank you all so much! I'll be hanging around, eating my feelings, so replies should be quick.
