Which cpu should I get to match a new GTX 1080? (Need upgrade tips!)

So its come to a my conclusion- by the help of others on this forum, that if I buy an ASUS GTX 1080 to upgrade my current setup, my cpu will bottleneck the performance. People says the compatibility is not an issue, but you can check it out yourself if you're so kind :)
(My motherboard has socket 1150 and the gtx 1080 says 1151. I dont know what any of those means...)

This is my current setup:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2 GHz
MB: MSI B85M-E45, Socket-1150
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770
PSU: Coolermaster 650W Bronze
Case: CM Storm Scout II

My question is- which cpu should I pair a gtx 1080 with?

I'd rather take something thats in the middle of the pack cpu and not some high end stuff. I'll be mostly playing newer games (e.g. Cyberpunk 2077) and my older games (e.g. Monster hunter world). And If you think I don't even need to upgrade my cpu- please say so since I genuinely don't know anything about cpus haha.

Solution
Your other option would be a 4790k, and while it would help to some extent, its not going to be a massive improvement in performance.
If you are reluctant to upgrade then use the 1080 for now and upgrade later when you feel you need to.
You can use the 1080 with that system, no issues on compatibility.
If you want to upgrade the processor, you would also need a new motherboard and RAM. A modern i5 (ie the 8600k) and a suitable motherboard would be a good move.
However, go ahead and install the 1080 now, and see how it performs. If you decide you need more performance right this moment go ahead with the upgrade above, but if you feel like you can wait a little bit, you can hold out for intels 9th gen launch.

Im not really looking for newer high end cpus, I just want something that compatible with my hardware and works good with the gtx 1080- are there nothing like that?
