Im reluctant on upgrading my MB (MSI B85M-E45, Socket-1150) to get a better performance out of a new gtx 1080 (on its way). I'm told either 4670k or 4770k.
Which cpu should be a good match for the gtx 1080 and for the socket 1150?

Solution
I5 4670k will do ok but depends what games you plan to play and at what resolution, Hz and frame rates.

BF1, Ghost Recon, FC5, Devision, Gta5 to name a few can chew i5 4c 4t CPUs running high frame rates. 6th gen i5s are having trouble also.

4c 4t CPUs used to be all you needed but now with games taking advantage of Hyperthreading and more cores, i7s are very handy. Especially at higher frame rates where more load is put on the CPU. More working threads helps reduce the chance of running a CPU bottleneck of 90~% where the GPU wont perform as well.

Overclocking an i7 4770k or 4790k is a good plan if you don't intend to overhaul to keep you going until pcie 4/5 motherboards are rumoured for release late next year / early 2020 +...

Whats the benefits of i7 4770k over i5 4670k in gaming? Ive been always told that i7 is for streaming, editing, etc. And none of that will I do...

In gaming not so much right now, however developers are and will be taking of more cores/threads, so getting the i7 would be a better choice. I would really shop around for them though, looking on ebay bot the i5 and i7 prices are really high considering a new i3 8100 or Ryzen 2200G are around 100 USD.

Would you recommend to buy a new MB and CPU or should i get i7 4770k and overclock it?
To make good use of the gtx 1080.

Ram capacity can be another issue. With a lot of vram comes lots of data swapping to and from system ram. Os uses 2GB for itself so an 8GB system doesn't leave much for these cards so to prevent too much pagefile usage have atleast 16GB ram.
