Recently had to replace the hdd in my computer and while reinstalling the os I connected the old hdd through usb in a desperate attempt to see if i could get the media drivers for the os but got a bsod fat file system not long after the hdd was connected, did this happen because of the state the computer was in or will that happened every time that hdd connects to a computer, if so is there any way to recover files from that hdd?

Solution
k4lnyc, if you are getting BSOD when booting, then the drive may be defective. Try booting only with that drive attached. If that does not work, the a recovery service may be your best bet.

Just want access to personal files right now, not sure how to go about any of the steps whenever I use an installation media I have close to no time before I get bsod'd, one thing I've wonder is if i'll get bsod if I use a computer that isn't in the installation process wasn't sure and don't want to to do something that might harm another computer/hdd.
