I have a single 8gb module and I feel like it isn't enough anymore and Im searching for the cheapest way to add more ram to my system. Will adding a 4gb stick work at all or do I have to buy a 8gb stick? Right now I really can't afford to spend much more money on my pc and Im wondering if I should wait for the ram prices to go down.

Depends on the board. If you have 4 slots you most likely have dual channel and you can add the 4GB stick to the second channel.

The biggest issue though is the memory brand. You need matching memory, and normally it is always best to buy it in kits that were matched and tested by the manufacture. Thats to avoid any possible issues that can be cause in that case.

It feels like it isn't enough because it's in single-channel. You need two alike sticks to run dual-channel. Adding 4GB to 8GB isn't the best way to run dual-channel.

RAM prices are down from what they've been. If you can't afford it, then selling your 8GB stick and buying 2x4GB kit would be better than what you have now.

I'm running 16GB RAM and it mostly uses between 6-8GB in games.
