PC too far from router?

Hey! I've just moved my PC probably 5m away from its previous position, and internet speed has dropped from 50 Mbps to 5. I have a 300 Mbps PCI card installed: (This one: https://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-5519_TL-WN881ND.html). My house is probably 100 years old, so I don't know how well Powerline or a Range Extender would go, don't want to waste too much money.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

No a range extender doesn't get done through the wiring. You plug it in and run a CAT6 cable to it from your modem / router or you connect it to your current wifi and it broadcasts a cloned network.

If it is absolutely not possible to just run a length of CAT6 cable from the PC to the router or modem, then yes you can get a range extender, but you are going to experience varying quality of ping. That basically means that you will get faster speeds, but you may experience random lag spike bursts that could last a few seconds.

Would a directional antenna work? Something like this: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/34649?gclid=CjwKCAjw8ajcBRBSEiwAsSky_RpVKdP_2OOz09PkE9Jzm2HvKuJzC4u2iPIiMqZ5WRNODaOGfg7DQBoCkmgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
My Router is a Telstra tg799vac, would i have to connect anything to it for a directional antenna?

It might. It's only $15 so it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Would i need anything to put into the router? Or just put the antenna into my Pci card

Ensure that your PCIe card has a spot to mount that antenna. But keep in mind, that isn't per say a range extender. That's just an antenna. There are range extenders that clone your WiFi and allow you to seamlessly switch between the two.

Will a range extender have to be done through my house's wiring like powerline? My house is 100 yrs old so i don't really trust the wiring. Also im 90% sure my PCIe card can mount it.
