Black screen crash randomly

Hi, I've been suffering these crashes for around a year now and every time I think I have solved it, it craps out again... It happens totally randomly, sometimes I can play games for hours sometimes it crashes straight into windows, it's a real bummer.
System spec:
Asrock xtreme 3 r2.0
Amd fx8350 (not overclocked)
2x4gb elite group black RAM
Amd rx580 8gb
500gb wester digital cav green HDD x2
1tb western digital cav green HDD
120gb Kingston hyper fury x SSD
Coolermaster cs650m PSU
Creative soundblaster rx5 (not 100% sure, I think that is the model of my sound card anyway)
Windows 7

I have tried a lot already to fix this... Reinstalled windows on multiple hard drives to test if it was the ssd/hdd failing, still got crashes. Updated dx manually with an update package from MS, seemed to help but then randomly crashed again. Tried several different display drivers which didn't help. Changed CPU from phenom ii to fx8350 after trying a friend's CPU in my system and it seemed to work only for it to crash again with new CPU, tick that off the list.. Bought the rx 580 to replace my r9 290x thinking it must be the culprit, seemed fine until a few days ago it crashed again.
Oh I also tried memtest, passed it fine , even left it running for an hour or 2 to be certain. Oddly swapping my ram from slots 1 and 3 to 2 and 4 fixed it for a day...
I'm thinking it has to be the mobo at this point but any and all suggestions are welcomed and I will try them.. Getting desperate at this point, I miss my rig and I have run out of possible ideas. Thanks in advance!

CoolerMaster never released a CS650M, but Corsair did. How old is the unit? Did you reinstall your OS after recreating the bootable installer to rule out a corrupt installer/installation? Are you on the latest BIOS update for your motherboard? Speaking of which are you working with the 970 or 870 chipset? Do you mean the games exit to OSes GUI or a reboot?

See if uninstalling and reinstalling your GPU drivers changes your experience. Also what games are you taxing the system with?

Oops... Corsair not coolermaster, I always mix that up xD
The system crashes to a black screen and it plays a short loop of the audio, needing a hard reset to do anything again. Also I have noticed when this happens my keyboard stops getting power too (the num lock light goes out).
Yes using the latest BIOS that was actually one of the first things I tried.
970 chipset
I also used 2 different windows 7 home premium 64bit discs when trying multiple reinstalls of windows, one was older and slightly scratched so I wrote a new disc out using a friend's computer.
A whole range of games crashes it e.g. far cry 4, subnautica, the forest, no man's sky, gta v (i tried a lot of games, some lasted longer than others), although some games ran fine... Age of empires 2 hd, banner saga 1, 2 and 3 for example. At other times it crashes as soon as you get to windows, sometimes it can run for days if I don't launch any games and just use youtube for example.
Tried multiple drivers, ran amd cleanup utilities between installs too.
Oh and the psu is around 3 years old now.
