Hi guys

4790k + Asus Maximus VII Hero + 16GB 1600Mhz + H100i V2

Need help to overclock Processor to 4.6Ghz and 4.7Ghz by using Offset Mode (in detail)

I would say those are debatable/personal preference. My opinion is that stress testing is not normal usage, so exceeding 80C in stress test is not necessarily a hard rule. An overclock that gets say 83C running Prime95 for an hour yet only 70C in a game is just fine, regardless of voltage. I always say max voltage is 1.4V, but that's a bit high for and Intel that's not delided. 1.35V is more of a reasonable ceiling to mention.

1.4V max is for the 5-8th gen Intel's. I'm sure you could go a little bit higher with Devils Canyon but I'd be concerned with electromigration. I do agree you could go higher with the stress testing as it's not exactly realistic so 83-85C would be acceptable.

Thanks to all of you. I read many Thread and Forums i.e. in TomsHardware, Linustech, Asus Rog Forum etc etc.....about Overclocking. But as I am new, I can't understand this well, I found that using Offset Method Vcore and Vcore Cache Voltage is bit useful but I don't know the calculations. The things I know about my processor as follows: (Note: Earlier I was running this processor on Gigabyte H97-D3H Motherboard with 4.6Ghz at 1.224v. Very Stable. Stress and Bench Test Passed i.e. CineBench with Max Score, CPU-Z bench, Real Bench and IXTU. and Temp never Cross 76c ..... All was Stable but I want to go Higher that's why I bought ASUS Maximus VII Hero.

Processor can run:

1) Stable at 4.4Ghz Default Turbo Boost (No OC) @ 1.184v

2) Stable at 4.6Ghz @ 1.224v - Temp not exceed / Cross 76c during Stress & Bench (Idle Temp 29c Cores and Packages 34c). I noticed that there is 5c Difference between Core and Package Temps

3) 4.7Ghz @ 1.27v, games were fine, even heavy CPU Intensive games were fine but bench fail and Later I checked that VRM got extra Hot (as Gigabyte Told me).

4) Once on Gigabyte H97-D3H I got to 4.8Ghz with Manual Voltage set to 1.3, was running fine and got Score in CineBench 914 Max but Motherboard was not able to Handle it. So back to 4.6Ghz.

Gigabyte H97-D3H is not good to go above this as VRM got heat-up too much on 4.6Ghz, even Gigabyte support told me do not overclock, let it default. But I did.

Anyway, the problem is that I some how don't understand to Overclock by using Offset Modes. I followed the guide as Shown in Pictures attached to get 4.4Ghz (Just for Testing Purpose and was good) but when I try to reach 4.6Ghz and put values there I messed up and system won't start. So I have to clear CMOS / BIOS to get it work.

So if anybody can help me to Overclock by using Offset Modes for VCore Voltage and VCore Cache Voltage for 4.6Ghz then it would be awesome for me to understand i.e. how & what values should I have to increase / decrease to get stable OC.
