I have purchased a new ram (4GB ddr3l) and I have fitted it in second slot and have already 2GB ram in first slot. Now problem is that my laptop is showing ram 6GB(2.92 GB usable). Why 2.92 is useable where other ram has gone it should all 6GB useabke.

Do you have 32bit windows?
It would then be limited to 4GB total and you may have 1GB set aside for things, like the graphics, plus the bios and integrated stuff's memory all count towards that 4GB total.
