i have 2 individual single channel ram sticks can i use both of them in my motherboard its a h81m-s2h one stick is 8gb the other 4gb and is it safe to try this out or could it brick my pc
It is safe to try since you have them.
The two sticks may or may not work together.
If there is a problem, your pc simply will not boot and you may get a ram error indication.
No harm will come.
If they do work, you will have 12gb.
8gb will operate in dual channel mode and the odd 4gb will run in single channel mode.
Run memtest86 to test.
You should be able to complete a full pass with NO errors.
I know everyone has a budget but I am still amazed at how many people still cheap out when it comes to memory. I'm can't believe how many people come to Tom's Hardware still running single channel setups.

His motherboard only has 2 slots. It would be single channel.

The RAM he is trying to run are 2 different types, 2 different sizes so it will not run in dual channel.
"When enabling Dual Channel mode with two memory modules, it is recommended that memory of
the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used for optimum performance."
