15cm / 5.9 inche solid concrete walls; whats the best network solution?

So here is our situations, we are moving into a new building which has super thick walls to the point that in some rooms there is no cellphone connection. We will have a 1000 mbps glassfiber connection attached to a router (the big red block in the middle of the apartment). We also have 2 computers: PC1 will be used for gaming and around 500+ mbps would be nice, PC2 will be used for youtube/netflix thus 100mbps are sufficient.

  • Would a Netgear Nighthawk x4s r7800 router be sufficient in penetrating the walls?
    Or would additional powerline adapters in both PC rooms be a better solution?

Pc1 has a straight shot to the signal thru the door so it should not be an issue.
Pc2 is the problem child.

The X4S is one of the most powerful wireless routers made in terms of signal strength so is worth trying. If it doesn't work then you can resort to a powerline adapter. If the ceiling uses panels instead of a painted concrete then you could run a lan cable easily.

There is one other possibility. I assume the apartment (nice place, btw, like the balconies) is wired for telephone. If you are not using the telephone service and it is wired in a star topology (so that all lines go back to a common place ... like the closet with the router), then the phone lines might work as Ethernet. If it is Cat 5 cable, you should get 1 Gbit/sec.

Interesting, thank you! We indeed won't be getting a home phone, so I will ask the landlord how the cables are set up and then see if we could do that
