Computer Freezes and lags

A couple of days ago I was playing GTA V with my friends when suddenly the game froze for a couple of seconds at the end of a race. I was late and I got irritated so i went to bed. The next day whilst playing any game the screen would freeze for a couple of seconds repeatedly until the game froze entirely and i had to force my computer into restarting. The computer then had problems starting, beeing stuck in a black screen with a white loading indicator in the top right corner. I had to restart the computer again to get it to start.

The problems have continued and even when i turn down my graphics to the minimum possible the freezing occurs.
I have also clearly noticed that normal programs such as Google Chrome, Steam and and the file explorer run slower and often stop responding and crash.

My computer:
Cooler master b500 VER.2. 500w PSU
Intel LGA1150 core i5-4690
Asus LGA1150 B85M-G
HyperX Fury DDR# 1600MHz 8GB black
MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB Gaming PCI - E
PC Prod Seagate Desktop SSHD 1 TB Sata 3
Samsung DVD RW SH - 224DB/BEBE Sata Bulk
Ms COA Win 8.1 Nordic (Now upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit)

Other things that might be of importance:
When the game i play freezes the GPU fans decrease in speed. The GPU runs at very high temperatures when playing BF4 on low, about 84 degrees celsius and when freezing cools down to about 70 according to MSI Afterburner. When not playing the temperature is at about 45 degrees. I don't have a recording of the temperature before my problems started to compare with.
The games freeze no matter the graphic quality.
I have run a CPU diagnostic test with Intels own diagnostic tool without finding errors.
When looking at my system information it says intalled RAM: 8Gb, Total RAM 7,94 GB and available RAM 4,42 GB. I dont know if this is normal. Loading into games on Bf4 also take a much longer time than before. I ran a windows memory diagnostic without finding any problems.

I tried reinstalled Windows without removing personal documents to no result. However, I noticed that afterwards somehow i had 2 TB of memory instead of 1 TB but the hard drive was already filled with 900 Gb of system files. Then i reinstalled Windows again, removing personal files and now the hard drive was almost empty with 1 TB of empty space. The freezing and lagging however is still there.

I appreciate any help but try use simple language since I am not very knowledgeable about computers.

Solution
"i tried some less demanding games and there was almost no lag at all. When replugging the GPU there was more freezing in the "normal" programs than earlier"

This tends to point to the GPU as the problem.

...and this>>>

"Once when restarting the computer I got a bluescreen with the message "bad system config info". Once I had to restart the computer three times just to get past the startup loading screen. I have also got a message whilst the computer was running with the message "Windows has stopped working". "

^^^^^This was with the GPU installed correct?
If so, this also points to the GPU as the problem.

You could try removing the graphics card and running on integrated graphics to see if the problem is with the card.

Also, I would check the PSU voltages to make sure they are in spec under load.

The positive voltages should be within 5% of nominal.

The negative within 10% of nominal.

Remember....if you remove the card and connect your monitor to the motherboard....you may have to go into the BIOS and enable "integrated graphics".

Although I think in some cases it does this automatically when you remove the card.

As far as checking the PSU voltages under load....I could explain it....but it would be long.....and you can find the same thing by googling something like "checking PC PSU voltages".

The voltage was fine.

I removed the graphics card and the computer started as supposed to. However, there was still some lag and programs stopping to respond. Without the GPU i could not try BF4 but i tried some less demanding games and there was almost no lag at all. When replugging the GPU there was more freezing in the "normal" programs than earlier but i managed to play a bit of BF4 without major problems. Later on the day though i could not even join a server. The lag is very varied from restart to restart...

Once when restarting the computer I got a bluescreen with the message "bad system config info". Once I had to restart the computer three times just to get past the startup loading screen. I have also got a message whilst the computer was running with the message "Windows has stopped working".
I think my friend has his old GPU that I can use to see if my GPU is faulty.
Are there any other things i could try, I am desperate to get my computer working?
