Dual GPU and CPU configuration in Dell Alienware Aurora R5

I am interested in buying a second hand Dell Alienware Aurora R5, advertised with the following specs: Intel 530 - i7 6700T, DDR4 32Gb, GTX 1060 6Gb, 256Gb m.2 SSD, 1Tb HDD, upgraded water-cooler + fans.
I am not using this as a gaming PC, but rather as a work desktop as I use VR software that is very RAM & GPU intensive. I'd like to purchase and try the machine as is, but if I require an upgrade, I'd like to add an extra GPU as there are slots for 2 PCI-E X16 cards (possibly same spec as the one that's in at the moment). Will this CPU handle dual GPUs (will there be bottle-necking) or is it just a waste of money to add an extra GPU without upgrading the CPU. From what I found in various forums, the CPU is upgradable (to 6700 or 6700K), however, with mixed results on performance upgrade. Ps. the software handles dual GPUs

Nvidia have made it clear that GTX1060's do not have SLI support. You will need to understand what the motherboard's make and model is since they will have PCIe lanes limitations in spite of having physical PC-E x16 slots.

Why not just build a system from the ground up with a hih end CPU and then gradually work your way in to having a GPU in or out of the platform?

Thanks for the response.
If this means anything to you: Alienware Aurora R5 Motherboard LGA1151 1NYPT 01NYPT.
Service manual page 17 has the board components: https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/alienware-aurora-r5-desktop_service-manual_en-us.pdf

I'm interested in it as is well priced and comes as a full setup (dual monitors etc.). For now, I'd need to know the upgrading capabilities. Can this processor handle dual GPU's if at a later stage I buy 2 x 1080's. Bear in mind it is the i7-6700T.
