Hey, here is my dilemma, I need a new gamer pc, my old one is dead. I have paid a local business for building it.

I have see the RTX launch but I'm not sold, so I went with the GTX 1080 ti instead. It's cheaper and I could get it right away. It has also been well test and supported.

I ordered it, and then the guy calls me and tells me the GTX 1080 ti won't be in stock before the 14th. He then asked me if I wouldn't rather have the
"Asus Dual RTX 2080 8GB", by model.

He offered it for the same price(even that it's a bit more expensive), and since the release date and restocking date are close together. I choose the new generation.

I have heard many online saying we should wait to see reviews or benchmarks before buying it. But I really wondered what other people would do in my place. After all it's not too late to change the order.

I guess my question is, what would you do?

Here is the system I ordered.

Intel i7-8700K
Cryorig H7
Asus Dual RTX 2080 8GB or Asus Strix GTX1080Ti 11GB
32GB G.Skill RipJaws 3200MHz
Asus Prime Z370-P
Kingston A400 240GB SSD
3TB Toshiba P300 HDD
Corsair TX650Watt Gold+
NZXT H500i - Black

First, one thing i notice was the term "dual" in asus. that dual cooler is pretty bad, and you might want to do something about it.

performance wise, I don't think there is going to be too much difference, between 1080ti and 2080. that's what people are basically guessing, and it's reasonable to say that this is the worst case scenario. (1080ti = 2080).

any chance that rtx 2080 massively improves fps over the 1080ti (2080 > 1080ti). that's an bonus.

since you are paying the same for the latest tech. i think it's worth a try.

RTX 2000 series promise more immerse visual experience on some games, if you happen to play those, then wait for 2080 is worthwhile, regarding performance comparison between RTX 2080 to GTX 1080Ti would be imaginative, if the frame per second is the goal, some OC GTX 1080Ti manage to get as fast as stock Titan Xp. That said, how "photo-realistic" the scene is going to be only could be seen by the players, I don't know how "more real to life" 3D world improves one skill at the game, but I bet It'll be good marketing.

I don't know much about this but, "Asus Dual RTX 2080 8GB or Asus Strix GTX1080Ti 11GB"?? 8GB vs 11GB? Ok yeah it supports that great "real time ray tracing" ofcourse but, think about it...
1) New cards will deffinatly always have kidsdiseases
2) Longterm spoken: 8gb<11gb vram... You will survive longer with 11gb of Vram, instead of 8 with that real time ray tracing... Games like tomb raider, they already ask 6gb of vram. Within 3-4 years from now, you can't play games in ultra 8 gb vram... 11gb will support your games throughout the next 5+ years. Just saying...

You forgot the most important thing and without it you don't have jack; what's your monitor?

One comment mentions long term ram.. the ram in a 1080ti is 11gb gddr5 and the ram in the 2080 is 8gb dual gddr 6.

They aren’t comparable on a gb v gb basis..

Personally I would go newer.

As an all round generalisation I think you might as well toss a coin as they take turns at being slightly better at different things. However if you disclose what you will be running on what resolution then perhaps one may edge ahead of the other- but without specific info you can only get generalised opinions.
