I recently upgraded my cpu from the i5 7500 to an i7-7700k. I’m using the stock cooler and idle is around 50c but not even %50 load it’s spiking to 90-100c! I have an old computer I don’t use that has a really good looking cooler, it says Cooler Master V8 on the front but it’s old from like 2009-2010 it’s sitting on top a i7 930. I was wondering if that cooler is compatible with my motherboard the ga-z270xp gigabyte. Please let me know I want to be sure before I take anything apart .

Not sure if they have changed it but the V8 cooler that is sold today does support 1151, but I'm not sure about an older version of it.

I wouldn't even use the computer until you have a sufficient cooler, the K chips aren't sold with the stock Intel cooler for a reason, the Intel stock coolers are pretty awful. Seeing on how you upgraded from a 7500 to a 7700K I assume you have a motherboard that doesn't support overclocking so if the V8 doesn't work you could get something like a Cryorig H5 and you should be fine.

I installed the cooler and the temps were about the same.. not sure whats going on but I just lowered the base clock down to 3.8 and lowered the voltage a little bit and I don't have to be paranoid untill I can get a better cooling system. Thanks though.
