recently I've purchased and installed the Corsair MP500 nvme m.2 SSD in my PC and checked CrystalDiskInfo and it's saying that my transfer mode is PCIe 2.0 x2 | PCIe 3.0 x4. is this normal?

Solution

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z97-GAMING-3/Specification
"1 x M.2 Key M Socket supports type 2280/2260/2242 storage devices in both PCIE Gen2 x2 & SATA mode"

That NVMe drive will run significantly slower on that motherboard vs a newer board with a x4 port.
Personally, I would not have bothered with that drive in that motherboard.

This depends on your motherboard and its m.2 port.
What specific board do you have?

The drive is capable of 3.0 x4
The H97 motherboard is 2.0 x2.

Performance depends on the slowest device of the chain. In this case, the motherboard.
The only change would be a newer motherboard (and CPU and RAM).

Hi,
I have read all the answers and have very similar problem so no point to start a new topic.

I have Crucial CT1000P1 M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 on my motherboard MSI X99 SLI PLUS which is PCIe 3.0 x4 ready. CPU is Intel I7-5820k. Unfortunately Crystal Disk info shows my SSD is running on PCIe 2.0 x2. I also have my RTX in slot 1 x16 and in slot 6 sound blaster sound card. Obviously I have tried without sound card and still PCIe 2.0 x2. BIOS is set to PCH and even tried to change PEGX from AUTO to Gen 3 but still no success.

I have tested drive in Crystal Disk Mark and reads/writes up to 800MB/s. Only way to improve my results is to turn on Momentum Cashe but that is not a case. By the manufacturer this drive should read up to 2000MB/s and write up to 1700MB/s.
I have unpluged all USB (does not make any sense but still) also apart graphics card PCIe slots empty and still no joy

Any ideas how to force this Crucial drive to work in PCIe 3.0 x4 transfer mode? I did run out of ideas :(

This thread is 2 yrs old.
You WILL get more recent relevant responses by starting a new one. You have completely different hardware.
