Basically my x99a sli Plus is busted because I keep getting an overcurrent warning on my usb device after getting a new psu because my old one was blown. I have tried everything ( unplugging all usbs, looking for damaged ports, etc) and it doesn’t work so now I am deciding if I want to get a new motherboard for my current cpu (i7 5820k) which I think will cost +$250 for a good one and I will also need a good cpu fan, was thinking the hyper 212, I will not be over clocking. So that will be close to $300 or more total. Or Is it worth to try and get a AMD Ryzen 2600 or 2600x and use the stock fan and buy a x470 gaming plus motherboard for ~$350 total? I could also prob sell the i7 cpu for $100-$175 and use that money for the Ryzen route.
What are your thoughts? Keep my current cpu and buy a new Mobo and fan or switch to Ryzen route.

well, my oc'd 5820k gets about the same R15 score as an oc'd Ryzen 2600X but the 5820k has better gaming performance due to clockspeed.

likewise, my oc'd 5960X scores the same as oc'd 1800X/2700X, and it's gaming better with higher clockspeed.
I think at that cost Id bite the bullet & change platforms myself.

Once you sell that cpu you'll actually be better off money wise & on a current platform.

Just dont expect a massive increase in cpu grunt , your old cpu is about on par with the 2600 non-x.

I would go with either the 2600 or 2600x. The newer platform will have more releases to come and should have some newer features. Performance wise you won’t notice a big difference but the Ryzen is newer and more future proof. If you don’t plan on overclocking then get the 2600x it will have better performance and a better cooler out of the box. If you are comfortable overclocking then the 2600 can easily match or beat the 2600x even with the stock cooler.
