Alright, trying to get into bf4 again, along with fortnite and bf5 beta,
I have a gtx1070 ti
I5 6400
H170 plus d3 motherboard
Single stick of 8gb ram

Feeling like it should be doing better FPS wise, getting around 90 on fortnite, and 50-60 on bf4.

What should I consider upgrading if anything? I have tried fps configs and all the tricks, really want to be able to hold 144fps

Thankyou!

You need a better CPU for Battlefield. It is a very CPU heavy title and the 6400 is below the minimum specs. You need a 8 thread CPU as battlefield will use all of those threads.

I would look for a used 6700/7700 on ebay and get another 8gb stick of RAM so you can run in dual channel. Doing those two things will see a really nice boost in Battlefield. Don't over pay for the 6700/7700 as Intel CPUs typically hold their value a little more than they should. But I think if you look around you can find a good deal on one.

FYI, if you get the 7700, you will need to update the bios on your motherboard with your current CPU for it to work.

I love the 8400, but it is not worth having to buy another motherboard. The difference in performance fps between the 7700 and the 8400 is less than 1%. I think you could find a used 6700/7700 for the same price as the 8400 and would avoid a new mobo.

Good call - that's a good plan to go with the i7 7700.
