I have Gigabyte H61M-S1 motherboard , i found ram that has this written on it : "4G 2Rx8 DDR3", will it work in my motherboard and what does that "2Rx8" means and can i combine 1Rx8 and 2Rx8 ?

it is referred to as single rank (1R) or dual rank (2R).

Yes, for the most part you can combine, but it depends on other factors, like your motherboard, ram speed and timings and voltage required. It can be troublesome.

What is your current ram module? Exact models of both the one you have and the one you want to buy will help.

And yes, it will work with your motherboard, but may not work alongside the current ram you have. Giving the exact model of the new module and your current one will help us figure that out for sure.

1R = Single Rank
2R = Dual Rank
A single-rank RAM has one set of memory chips that are accessed while writing to or reading from the memory. A dual-rank RAM is similar to having two single-rank RAMs on the same module, with only one rank accessible at a time

If you put it in alone, it should work if it's not broken. If you mix it with another RAM, it depends on your luck. It might work and it might not.

If they come in a kit (2x4GB), then yes.

If they are from the same brand, model, speed, but purchased differently, then probably yes.

If they are different like 4GB Kingston + 4GB Corsair, depends on your luck.

Solution

In that case, yes. But (always the caveat) you have to make sure the DIMMS are compatible with your mobo. Otherwise, it may be troublesome to get them to work. often it just means inputting some details in the bios (Timings, Voltage etc). So if you are happy using the bios then it's highly likely they will work.

Again though, without telling us the exact model of the DIMMS, we cannot be exactly sure!
