System:

  • CPU - Intel core i7 7700k (not overclocked)
CPU cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
    MoBo - MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X ATX LGA1151 (MS-7A11)
    Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (XMB profile enabled)
GPU - Gigabyte G1 Gaming Nvidia GTX 1070
    Storage - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (OS installed) / Seagate 2TB HDD / Crucial MX500 1TB
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
OS - Windows 10 Pro (all updates installed)

Back in February I upgraded my PC by going from my 6600k to a 7700k and adding the 1TB SSD. It required a BIOS update which was successful. I also did a fresh install of Windows as well. I thought everything was fine seeing as how temps on the CPU were stable (34-40C idle / 60-70C under load) and it ran fine for the most part. I used it for school which required running a few Linux VMs while I also used Word and browsed the web on the host OS. The only game I really played was PUBG which crashed a good bit (only BSOD occasionally) but I chalked it up to PUBG being PUBG. I finally got around to installing all the games I had before I reinstalled Windows. Crashes and BSODs became more common and it was no longer just isolated to PUBG. I was getting multiple BSODs a week, sometimes multiple in a day. It predominantly happened while gaming, once while running Spotify, once while using Windows Defender to do a scan for a virus, and a few times while watching YouTube in Chrome. Most of the time I can just Restart Windows and then I would be able to game or use Chrome fine. I want to reiterate that my PC is usable for the most part. What bothers me is before the upgrade to the 7700k I maybe had one or two BSOD from June of 2016 to February 2018.

The BSODs are normally "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" although I have seen a few different ones. The only one I can recall is"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".

So things I have tired already:
Reinstalling Windows
Using DDU to remove display drivers then installing most recent Nvidia drivers for GTX 10 series
Used Windows Memory testing Utility - results came back OK
Used IntelProcessor Diagnostic Utility - passed all test (did get some freezing and visual artifacts on screen during one portion of test but not sure if that is normal)

My question really boils down to this: Should I consider replacing hardware at this point? Specifically: upgrading to a Z270 motherboard or maybe I got a bad 7700k? All my parts should be compatible. Any help would be appreciated.

Check Reliability History for error codes and warnings. Especially any yellow or red icons that occurred just before or at the time of the blue screens.

Informational icons (blue) may be helpful so do look at them as well.

And what PSU do you have: make, model, wattage, age, condition?

Condition is good to fair I would say. I bought it in 2016 but I clean it with compressed air every few months or so.
