Hi, I'm new to Linux and can't manage to connect with Wi-Fi. Luckily I could set up ethernet, but still would like to know why Wi-Fi won't work.

This is the error message that came up:
Some packages (broadcom-wl) are required but aren't available. Please email texstar at gmail.com about it.

The following component is missing: wl

The required files can also be installed from this URL:
http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php
-------------
The link that it gives me is I think old, since it sends me to this site instead:
https://www.broadcom.com/support/download-search/?pf=Wireless+LAN+Infrastructure

Thanks in advance, please help.

open a terminal window,
type:
ls -l /var/lib/dkms
what version dkms is?

also please list the Linux version so that we can help you better with specific commands.

just to let you know, you need to be with driver version 2.0.19. There is a way to downgrade with synaptic. dkms-2.2.0.3 is experimental and is not working in some hardware configurations.
