Upgrade from 1070 to 1080ti

Just ordered a 1080ti , and i just remember if my psu is even able to handle . I will list my specs below

Ryzen 2700X
12gb ddr4
Genome ii liquid cooled case
Corsair cx600
1 x 500gb ssd
1x 250gb ssd
Strix x470 or z ,motherboard

make sure your surge protector and volt stabilizer is still working. If you're not sure of cx600 time between failure, probably the best way for you is by applying credit installment instead of buy with cash on premium model such as seasonic titanium, new gtx 1080ti won't be on a risky situation caused by cx600's steep current flux, but it may affect process performance.

I'd go for intel, be patient with RTX 2080ti and content yourself with CPU IGP,

I would recommend getting a better PSU than that, they are well known to fry GPUs and MB's when they let go.

Those PSU's have known issues so pairing it with a system like that and GPU is iffy at best.

They are a budget PSU not ment for those types of systems so they don't generally hold up very well at all.

Not just that, they can take out the whole system when they let go, and it's not if.... It's when.....

Been very well documented to do so as well.

@OP When choosing a new power supply, check back here before buying. A decent guideline is to reference this PSU Tier list.

Gaming systems should stick to Tiers 1-3, which more expensive systems sticking to 1-2. But even within the tiers, there are widely varying units with some being much better especially for the price. So, there are some withing those tiers that I wouldn't' necessarily recommend at certain prices, which is why I say check back here before buying.

The max power consumption of a 1070 is 150w-170w, the max power draw of a 1080ti is 250w. A difference of 80W. You'll probably be OK with a 600w PSU. but I would recommend a PSU upgrade for sure as it is one of the most important piece of hardware in your PC. NEVER Cheap out on your PSU.

Actually high end GTX 1080Ti's will pull well over 300W easy.

Yup you are correct the high end cards will draw 300w+. Wow that is a pretty big power draw, I'm surprised.

ismailjamalx11 I don't entirely trust the older CX power supplies for my own builds, although I admit that this view of mine has been influenced by this site. My normal advice for 980 Ti / 1080 Ti builds with ~100 watt CPU TDP builds is tier 1, 650 and 850 watt PSUs for single and dual GPUs. I bump the preceding advice to 750 and 1,000 watts, if both the CPUs and GPUs have aggressive to extreme overclocks. With that said, in your position I would plug the new 1080 Ti into the CX 600 for now and wait. By next week, we should know a lot more about the RX 2080 Ti's. I'm eager to see how much higher the power consumption pushes past 280 TDP. If independent hardware reviewers find that power consumption figures are much higher, then I would purchase a wattage that supports that, in order to future proof. I plan to use my EVGA p2 850 for it's entire 10 year warranty, so it's $140 purchase price back in 2015, was worth the investment and grants me peace of mind.

Don't put that GTX 1080Ti in the system until you get a new better PSU.

Not worth the risk.
