Question from wesselvandewal1 : "Gtx 770 4gb with tp550"
wesselvandewal1 :
Hi toms hardware,
Im planning to buy a gtx 770 4gb palit jetstream. BUT I have an antec 550 watt truepower PSU. I will use a 6pin to 2× 8pin converter since I only have 1 6pin. Can my PSU handle this GPU because the recommended wattage for this GPU is 600 watt but I only have 550? Will it be enough? Im not planning to overclock. The rest of my pc specs are:
- i7 920
- 8gb ddr3 kingston
- cooler master sryker case
- antec truepower 550 watt PSU
I don't know if with Antec Truepower you mean Antec Truepower Classic or Truepower Classic is another PSU series. If they are the same series (it looks like it is) and according to this tier list, it's a really good PSU and probably will handle the graphics card:

Anyway the recommended wattage as you said is 600W. You can just try. Anyway you can limit the GPU power draw with MSi Afterburner, maybe you can cut a sensitive slice of power draw without loosing performance or introducing instability.
Anyway you should change your PSU to avoid overloading it. If the PSU is really Tier 2 you should be able to sell it at a nice price and get a lower tier but more powerful PSU without loosing much money.
