I recently bought an Alienware Aurora R7 for Dell’s Black Friday in July sale. The specs are:
Intel Core i7 8700
GeForce GTX 1070
16 gigs ram
Stock fans for cooling
144 hz monitor
For the first month, PUBG gameplay was smooth and perfect. Out of nowhere, gameplay started looking choppy and not smooth at all. I noticed my GPU regularly going up to 85-90 Celsius when playing. A couple times it hit ~93. Even though the game is very choppy, I am still getting 120 frames consistently. At first I thought maybe I was just lagging or something was wrong with my internet. My speeds are great and my ping is great too. Then I started noticing that even while on the desktop, moving my mouse back and forth sometimes look choppy and not smooth, as if it is lagging. This makes me think that the issue has nothing to do with PUBG or my internet.
Things to consider:
When gaming, my GPU is usually between 97-100% load and my CPU is regularly ~50% load. When I turn my fans on 100%, my GPU drops down to ~70 degrees Celsius but the choppiness persists. I have tried system restoring my computer and updating my graphics drivers with no results. I have also checked the process manager to make sure no programs are overworking the computer.
Questions:
Was my GPU running too hot and I damaged it, even though gameplay says it’s still running at ~120fps but often looks more like 20fps?
What do I do?
