Sabertooth z87 ram upgrade

Hi guys I would like to upgrade my system ram, i'm on a Sabertooth z87 from asus and I have at the moment 12 gb dual channel 1333. On the Asus official site the support is up to 1866 rams. Can I buy faster ddr3 rams or is just useless cause the motherboard won't be able to use them? The cpu is an I7 4790k

Sometimes a mild oc is required but not usually. You should just be able to install the 2400 ram and go into the BIOS and enable xmp and I'll set memory up for you

So I will just set timings, frequency, the right voltage and they can go at 2400? Do I need to overclock the cpu too or can I stay stock (for the moment)?
