Hello,

  • I have (3) Advanced Format WD HDD's in 512e mode. Two from 2014 and 1 two days old, all unused.
I used GParted to set an MBR partition table and it set the first partition starting at sector 2048 instead of sector 63. I read that was for compatibility which, I guess so the UEFI can start it in compatibility mode.
My mb's are MBR from 2009. I had to get a GParted from 2007 to set the first partition at sector 63.
Which would be correct for a BIOS only mb for these 512e disk?

    thanks up
front for ANY help,
michael

Solution
You don't have to worry about it (unless you're using windows xp).
Just partition/format drive normally. Any modern OS (windows 7 and later) will do the rest correctly.
