Lighting issues in games

I have lighting issues in my games specifically dark areas. It's not the monitor since it is brand new, nor is it the PC. Some games which have alot of night time gameplay such as Dying Light are unpalyable since it is pitch black. Turning the brightness and other settings up just makes it even darker.

It's in the game's settings or in the control panel of your gpu. Also that part of ori and the blind forest is supposed to look like it does in the screenshot so maybe it is just your monitor's gamme, contrast, brightnes,... being on the wrong level.

Thanks for the fast reply. Doesn't seem to work though. Like i said, anything i change it doesnt brighten up the dark areas it just makes them darker. Oh well, guess i'll stay away from those kind of games.
