I have a dell Studio 1555 laptop but it screen wont work. Also cant connect the external monitor. I need data from this laptop.
I bought a 2.5 inch external enclosure with USB 3.0 and plugged in the drive from the laptop. It read fine for the first time and I can see the precious files but it was non responsive.
But now every time I connect the external enclosure, Hard disk gets recognized by the system, 3 drive partitions appear in My computer but then disappears and device gets auto ejected.
I tried different ports, it does the same. Extenal hard disk do not appear on the disk management console. Also, it appears in device manager but as soon as it get ejected, it disappears.
Please help. I can afford to lose data from this hard disk

Solution
Go into c:\windows\system32 and right click on the file cmd.exe. From the list, choose RunAs Administrator and when the black form shows up, keep it open.

Open Windows File Explorer then connect the erring disk to a USB port and as soon as you see the drive letter in Explorer, type at the prompt in the Command form
chkdsk x: /r
where x is the letter for that drive.

My theory is once the System Administrator gets hold of the the disk and starts the job of scanning and repairing any disk errors it finds, it's less likely to ejected.

It's worth a shot and I hope it gets you somewhere.
