Hey, So I may be late to the party when asking this question, but I'm fairly new to the OC world. I haven't really been able to find much in ways to learn how to OverClock my cpu. Been seeing that some people are able to get away with overclocking to 5.0 ghz, I wouldn't mind hitting numbers like that, or maybe 4.9Ghz? I have a custom liquid cooling loop cooling my cpu and gpu, so I shouldn't need to worry about thermals I don't think Any help would be great.

System Specs:
- ROG Maximus IX Code
- 17 7700K
- 32 gigs of Ripjaws V @ 2133
- Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti waterforce WB
-1200 watt Seasonic Prime

I found this spreadsheet (link) pretty helpful. As for how far your chip will go will just depend on how lucky you got on the silicone lottery. My 7700k stopped at 4.9 before I delidded. However it achieved 4.9 without hardly any extra voltage to speak of
After delidding I was able to get 5.0, but no further. It would boot at 5.1, but it won't run any benchmarks.

Thanks so much dude! Yeah, I'm not too comfortable with delidding the cpu quite yet haha, would like to throw some numbers around and see what I can do first

Oh, don't know if you can help, but, I think it has to do with my current OC settings (I bought the system prebuilt from a company here in Canada asked them to OC the system) but whenever I load up GTA V on the main boot screen of the game it flashes (i can't quite describe it) than goes away when the loading screen pops up. I'm also getting low 30 frames on High (not ultra) settings even when the GPU is overclocked..Any ideas? All other games seem to run fine.. Graphics driver is up to date.

Honestly after delidding my CPU, I can say I would not recommend delidding CPUs.

What kind of FPS do you get on the GTA benchmark? It should be way more than 30. My 7700k machine, GTX1070 FTW, 32 GB 3200, with everything set on Ultra was getting more than that. I just recently picked up GTA for PC (originally played it on 360) so I just installed it and made sure it ran, but if I recall it sat locked at 60 FPS throughout the benchmark. I can run it again and double check that though.

My experience exactly. Eventually started BSOD at 5.0 also. Somewhat of a dud experience after the newness of 5.0GHz wore off. Gaming at 5.0GHz isn't much different than gaming at 4.5GHz TBH.

On the benchmark I get a solid 60 frames across the board, but when I hop in game I drop to 35 frames on highly populated areas and dense foresty areas. I have the latest geforce drivers, and its loaded on my M.2 SSD.. I'm lost and completely confused as to what's going on.
