Hi I have a fx 6300 and a gigabyte ga-970a-ds3p motherboard. Just got a gtx 1070 and would like to oc my CPU. I dont really know how and would like to not mess up my PC. Any help on how?

Solution
Typically on your board, I would push for a moderate OC of about 4.5 GHz, (+1 GHz above stock).
Try a voltage of 1.45000V, and make sure temperatures are under 71°C.
Test for stability using 30 runs of standard IBT, again check temps. If unstable, raise to slowly 0.0125V at a time to 1.50V max,
if doesnt work, aim for 4.4 GHz etc

A sure work example
Disable turbo, Cool and Quiet, C6, C1E, HPC
Set multi to 22.0x FSB 200 MHz
Set VCore to 1.45000V. LLC Medium.
disable "cool nquiet",and turbo boost before any overclocking.go into your bios and bump the multiplier one step at a time until your pc isnt stable ie doesnt pass a stress test.do this test in between every adjustment to the multiplier.i would use a program like occt.once you have it as high as it will go and be stable you can think of boosting the cpu voltage.another thing to consider is your cooler.what cooler do you have?i wouldnt go much higher than 3.8-4.0 with the stock cooler.my 6300 runs at 4.5ghz at 2.8 volts.have fun.
