GPU: nvidia gtx 970

My system has run fine for years now and suddenly I have a serious problem and after two days of frustration, I'm desperate for help.

I was working on my computer (coding so nothing too intensive) when my computer suddenly just froze. I figured that it was just one of those things and restarted the system. Now it will not boot to the OS. I was running a Hackintosh from one SSD and Windows on another and neither would boot. On both, the system POSTs and I can get to and use the BIOS screen but as soon as I try to boot the OS it freezes. The Hackintosh would just restart the computer as soon as the apple logo appeared and windows would freeze as soon as the logo appeared forcing me to restart.

Since then I cannot get the computer to boot into an OS no matter what. Steps I have tried to tackle the problem include:

1) Taking all components out and installing them one by one to see if any cause a failed POST. All works fine and I could get to the bios screen with no red light on the mobo.

2) Check each RAM module and used a RAM module I knew worked from my partners PC

3) Removed all HDD and SSDs. I then formatted one of the SSDs to try and install a fresh version of just windows without any Hackintosh interference. I have the same problem, can get to the BIOS and use it but as soon as I try to boot the install USB it freezes. I have tested the USB on my partner's system and it works as expected so it's not the USB.

4) Tried the above with just one SSD, cpu and one stick of ram installed to no avail.

5) Updated the BIOS firmware to the latest and set to optimized defaults and repeated above.

NOTES: To format the SSD I used GParted from a USB. I even had problems with this and it would not boot up unless I selected the boot with Failsafe mode. It displayed a message saying PnP caused a fatal error, but then loads anyway. Don't know if this indicates anything.

I'm confused as the system POSTs and gets to BIOS fine, could the Mobo or CPU be bust and still POST? I would greatly appreciate any and all help/suggestions to try and fix this as I'm beginning to pull my hair out.

EDIT
I managed to grab a photo of the errors that GParted displays before it loads. Don't know if this will help shed any light on the OS situation?

You can see if here IMAGE

Thanks, Danny

Yeah posts with/without the GPU installed. Either way still freezes on the OS startup.

Okay, I shall purchase a new motherboard and update with the results. Could there have been a reason for it to break? Or is it just one of those things (It's only about two years old)?

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

So installed a brand new mobo this evening. Exactly the same problem occurs. Gets to windows logo and then reboots even when trying to boot the install usb. Can get to the bios fine and the system POSTs. Any idea what the hell is going on?

Usb works in all other computers I've tried it in. Tried switching over the PSU and still same problems. The only thing I havent changed us the CPU. But I'm reluctant to pay for a new one to have the same problems. Surely it would not post or recognise the CPU in the bios if it was broken?

no, it could be the cpu, i've seen bad ones that post, then crash. did you possible knock the cooler off the cpu a little? that would shut it down right quick

test also with different ram sticks if you can, not the ones you were using. you need to rule stuff out.

I don't think the cooler was knocked. Plus I've had the same problem since the crash, pulling it all apart to test and clean and then moved everything to the new mobo to test again. If it is a CPU problem its got to be from that initial crash. I've tried ram from another computer and have the same problem.

I'm going to try creating a Linux usb and see if that will boot up. Otherwise I'll see about changing the CPU. Doing loads of Google searching and I've seen others say a dying CPU can cause boot loops as well. After all the testing I'm kinda hoping it's the CPU. If I swap it out and it still does it then who knows what is going on!

Would just love to know what caused it so it's not repeated with a new CPU lol
