Hi guys,
My system specs are
CPU:I5 3330
RAM: 12Gb DDR 3

I am looking to upgrade from my old GT 730 GPU to a GTX 1060. Was wondering if I should get the 6gb version or 3gb sc version (both EvGa as EvGa has warranty in my country)
The price difference is 30$ between the two the 3gb sc is at 240$ and 6gb single fan version is at 270$ .
I want it to last till 4 years. It will be fine if I lower down the details later but at least need around 60 FPS.
I WILL GAME AT 900p
Any help is appreciated
Thanks :)

The only answer is the GTX1060 6gb, as long as you don't overclock.

The 3gb version is approx 5-10% slower at 1080p 60hz/fps. Sometimes less, sometimes more game dependant. Your CPU is capable (not stellar) and wont' necessarily bottleneck either, with the exception of a the more CPU foucsed games. BF1, COD WW2 for example.

To last, the 6gb version is the only answer. But at 1080p you prob only get another year or two out of the GTX1060 before having to dial back settings anyway,

If i were you I'd wait for an RTX2060, which will be a nice card hopefully. It will eat the 1060 for breakfast (okay, maybe 20% performance increasing) but will likely last about the 4 years you are looking for.

In between now, and 4 years, you defo need...

In between now, and 4 years, you defo need a system upgrade. The i5 is just about capable now for AAA games. It's maxing out. You need a better system to keep up with GPU's like the GTX1060 and above, specially the newer cards (RTX)

At 900p the vram usage will fall under 3gb. At 1080p the vram usage is often over 3gb. So the resolution matters.

If price is key, then the 3gb version will do great for high/Ultra at 900p, with the odd game dialled back a little. Keep in mind what i said about your system though. It's reached it's max capabilities now. You will only experience lowering settings from now on unless you upgrade your system within a year.

To game at 900p, I'd suggest considering a 1050TI.

Not only is it cheaper (as a weaker card), most should not need supplemental power.

Probably overkill for 900p today, but should last you quite a few years and, if you step up to 1080p... it's still a very respectable performer.

The thing is that after 4 years I'll go to university so really don't know if I'll be home or not. Will probably build a new system then. So now I just want a GPU to last me those few 4 yrs. I really want to play battlefield 5 and cyberpunk 2077

For BF 5 at 900p, to have nice settings the 1060 3gb will outperform a 1050ti (even with the 1gb defecit in vram) by a substantial amount. Keeping in mind 4 years, the 1060 3gb is your least best option.

At 1080p, if youupgrade, the 1050ti lags a good bit behind a 1060. The 1060 3gb is roughly 30% faster than a 1050ti, game dependant : https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2867/geforce-gtx-1060-3-gb

Here's a guide to FPS difference. Although a different cpu (In this case a very powerful I5 8600k) you can see the difference in FPS despite the drop in vram from 4gb 1050ti, to the 3gb 1060.
