I have an Asus Z370A motherboard and I use a cat6 cable pluged into a switch and connected to my surfboard 8200. My issue is that I use to have a cheap netgear modem/router that I use to plug into the switch and the connection was excellent. But now I get the identifying network sign and can't receive any signals.

Solution
Your connections MUST go modem---router---switch---devices.

Almost all cable companies restrict the modem to provide only a single ip address. This means only 1 device can use the internet. That is the main purpose of the router to share that single ip to mulitple machines.

Thanks, I managed to connect my media server to the internet and use internet sharing with the addional lan port to the switch. The switch is a 5 port gigabit switch and i currently have the router (no gigabit lan ports) on it and my gaming pc.
