Hey people,

I'm currently in the situation where i want to buy a new cpu or gpu, the thing is, i got a great deal on a new 8700k or a 1070, but which should i pick "tilting towards the 8700k for future proofing"

I play a mixed match of cpu and gpu intensive games,

But currently my focus is Wow "Cpu intensive"

Cpu: 3570k oc'ed to 4.2 Ghz

Gpu: 960 4gb 110 TDP 75Mhz core oc

Solution
honestly my 2600k@4.5 did very well with my 980ti(roughly equivalent to the gtx 1070). when i upgraded to the 8700k, i only saw very minor gaming improvements across the board.

with the 9000 series intel chips about to launch, you could probably pick up an 8700k for a very decent price down the road, and there is also the slim chance that ddr4 prices could plummet or at the very least fall sometime soon.

the 1070 is going to feel a whole lot faster than the 960. in most cases you would never notice the 3570k vs 8700k, especially in gaming.

i dont see gpus dropping in price anytime soon. if you mean a "great deal"... is there anyway you can get both lol? it is sort of a tough question. and also, dont count out ryzen. the r7 2700...

I would be switching from another platform then, as the 3570k does not use the 1151 socket.

I'm also full aware of changing to a 8700k requires a new mobo and ddr4

I have read that in 1080p the i5 will not bottleneck most graphics cards badly. so for best performance id upgrade gfx card to 1060 6gb or rx580 8gb. i have seen where can put a 1070 or 980 with it, although depending on what resolution you run games in you may not need to. your i5 has simmilar performance to some newer quad cores and still holds its own even when paired with newer graphics cards. id upgrade gpu but, what card you should get really depends on what res you will play at since cpu bottleneck is unlikely.

I'm not interested in a 1060 as it's to slow for my taste, and a 1070 is bare minimum, as i'm looking for a long term upgrade

so hell buying the 8700k and then waiting for a 2060 might seem like a good bet

Yea i know the performance increase is not really gonna be visible without a gpu upgrade aswell....But 250 euro for a 8700k is a crazy deal 300 dollars for the americans :)

Also currently the 960 is not really bothering so, as again i mostly play wow, so the 40 frames in raids are fine :) hell my old pc would had a 980ti also struggled maintaining a steady framerate in raids
