I5 8600K + GTX 1080 for 1080p 144hz gaming

I made a thread the other day about the i7 7700k vs the i5 8600k purely for pushing the best frame rates in games all the time.

I was surprised to see a lot of discussion around problems with the 8600k and high CPU usage in games being a problem. Was wondering if anyone actually knew of any problems that might arise if I were to pair the 1080 with the 8600k for 1080p 144Hz, and if any of this is actually true or possibly even if the 7700k might be the better option overall due to problems with the 8600k.

Thanks.

In our review of the 8600K, we found it just as capable in straight gaming as the 7700K. 4C/8T vs 6C/6T is basically the same. If you add recording/streaming into the mix then the 8600K is the better chip. Anyone telling you otherwise doesn't understand what they are talking about. When I come back from work today I might look up this thread and ask them what the heck they are meaning to say.

The more to the right, the more FPS you get. The higher up you are, the more the CPU costs. Notice that the 8600K and the 7700K are basically in the same spot. More than 65, less than 70. But the 8600K is lower on the graph. Meaning it's a cheaper...
I was on that thread and to be honest and really from my personal perspective having had an 8600K overclocked to 5GHz and now a 8700K, I just don't see the criticism borne out in real world use or in fact through many reviews on the 8600K...It is a fantastic gaming and dependant on the actual games the second or the best CPU out there for mainstream gaming..I am not including Streaming in this use case...Just my personal thoughts. Of course the GPU matters and the 1080 or 1080ti will more than make use of the 8600 at 1080p high refresh rate...

IDK what you may have to do to your settings. I see it as possible with a capable monitor.

I have those parts in the rig I am testing right now. All my monitors are 60hz either 1080 or 4K. I can see it pushing higher than that frames (around 110-ish average on my counter) but screen tear, etc. cause me too much issue to use.
