Hi,

My home PC and wifi router are connected to my modem. I had forgotten the password to access the wifi network. So I manually rest the device. Now I am unable to login to my wifi router. I tried by directly connecting the wifi router to my PC and typing 192.168.1.1 in the web browser.
Pls. advise how I can login to the wi fi router and set the password. I would like the same configuration ie. Both PC and wifi router connected to the modem. I have a Netgear WGR614 v9 wifi device.

Thanks in advance,
Arvind Gupta.

I am attaching the output of ipconfig /all for your perusal. BTW as I know, when I reset the wifi modem, its IP address also becomes 192.168.1.1. Since the modem's IP{ address is also the same, will there not be a clash between these two addresses?

Yes, there would be a clash if the modem is the same subnet as the router. To fix this, you would disconnect the router from the modem, but leave the PC connected. Then try the router admin address. You will have to change the LAN IP range of the DHCP server to something other than 192.168.1.x I use .10.x but since you started with ".16.x" you could use that. Any third digit except 1 .

BTW -- Your ipconfig looks normal. You are getting a DHCP address (.3) and the gateway and DNS are both pointing to the router .

OK...then how do I login to my wifi router? I gave IP address in google chrome as 192.168.1.3 but did not get the login screen (when in cmd.exe I gave ping 192.168.1.3; I was able to ping the wifi router).

Thanks,

OK. I pinged 192.168.1.1. the ping was successful. When I gave this address in the browser, the login page of the modem came up. I could login and see the various options.

I want to know how I can get into the wifi router to setup its password (the wifi router is also connected to the modem; like the PC is connected to the modem). Is there a way to communicate with the wifi router in the present connection configuration?

Here is an image to clarify the connections:

Thanks,

P.S. If you could tell me how to find out the address of the wifi router in this connection configuration, that would also suffice. I could then log in to the device and set a wifi password.

OK...how do I set it up as an access point... I dont know much of networking... hence asking this question. I want to simply access wifi when required and keep the router off when not required. Is it possible?

Thanks,
