PC shuts down from overheating after getting new GPU

So my specs are
GPU: 1070ti ASUS Roy Strix
CPU: Ryzen 1600
Mobo: MSI B350 Tomahawk
Ram: 16gb
Case: NZXT s340
Cooler: Ryzen 1600 Stock cooler
PSU: 650 Corsair (Found out recently it was refurbished from Corsair)

Problem: So upon getting a new graphics card I turned off Vsynch for Fortnite and was hitting 200fps+ I was really excited suddenly my PC turned off, I sighed because the same thing happened to my 750ti upon playing overwatch then I upgraded to a 1050ti the problem stopped upon turning Vsynch off, I blew tons off money on the 1070ti now I’m stuck with a GPU that has to be restricted to 60fps? So I thought maybe it’s overheating let me try up the fan speed, it worked for a while then suddenly the same problem occurred when it was at 45-50 degrees I was bat shit annoyed at this point. Can anyone help me please? Do I buy a new cooler? Apply thermal paste to the CPU is it the power supply? Like I’ve had it at this point I just want my pc to play at the performance I want it too with it not overheating and switching off.

Are you sure it's an overheating issue, have you monitored temperatures? Sounds more like a power issue to me.

Also, if you only have a 60Hz monitor, what's the problem with using v-sync? I know in really fast paced shooters (which Fortnite isn't) you want the latest frame possible, which is why "adaptive v-sync" exists. If it's a case of either using v-sync or having my computer shut down, I know what I'm using.

Case is advertised as Compact ATX Mid Tower Case | NZXT.

Fan Support
Front: 2x 140/2x120mm
Top: 1x 140/120mm (1 x 120mm FN V2 Fans Included)
Rear: 1x 120mm (1 x 120mm FN V2 Fan Included)

Whether or not you installed fans in the front or left the spaces empty can cause overheating. Some fans move more air than others. These are rated at 19 dBA which is quiet.

sounds like without vsync on (capping your FPS to monitor's refresh rate) your PSU is being pushed to a level that is causing it to shut down. the obvious thing to do would be to leave vsync on for now, but if I were you i'd start looking at a new PSU ASAP.

downloaded one right now, testing it out. would suck if its because of the psu, plugging everything back in whilst waiting for a new one is a pain in the ass.

yeah so looking at my case right now, on the far left side on the top there is a fan pointing east side, whilst on the top left side there is another fan facing towards the bottom, then in the top middle is my stock cooler. do you think the airflow is restricted?

Ok so just ran a bench mark twice, ultra everything full screen with my monitors 1920x1080, it did get hot, but not crazy, it seemed to not go more then 60 degrees c, it also didn't shut off whilst I benchmarked it. any other suggestions? V synch was also off since i was getting 90-100fps

Yeah i understand, but i play fortnite save the world, i want the game to look beautiful and fast paced when killing husks and defending my base haha. also if that were the case then i wouldnt of spent my money on a expensive gpu when i could of kept my 1050ti.

Assuming you only have a 60Hz 1080p monitor, then the 1070ti is overkill. There is no point in running 200+ fps when you can only display 60fps, all those extra frames are wasted and can cause screen tearing.

I was incorrect about adaptive vsync (it's for low frame rates), what you should use is "fast vsync" as this displays the last frame rendered to eliminate lag and without causing screen tearing....it doesn't make the GPU work any easier as it still renders the unused frames.

BTW, 60 degrees C is very low, you don't have an overheating issue, it's most likely either power or software related.

Thanks, so I purchased a g2 evga and I guess the PSU was the main source of the problem, loving this PSU my pc hasn't been so cool in a while since you gave a recommendation I'll mark you as the person who solved my issue, many thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Too many times we give someone our thoughts on what might be wrong, and we never hear from them again.....you never know if you were right or wrong.
