i have core 2 quad q8200 with stock intel cooler for core 2 duo. i run cinebench and the temperatures reached 73c degrees. time for new cooler?

the cooler is clean and airflow is not a problem cuz i tested it outside a case :)

Solution
That's a very normal temperature for idle. And like I said before, 73 degress at full load is not "that" high.

I would suggest u get your GPU, try and play a game, and see what temps you're getting. If it's constantly over 70 degrees, then yeah maybe you can get something like a nice Noctua CPU cooler for 50-60$.
Right okay. Well you were running cinebench so it's normal that temperatures are high. 70 degrees is honestly wuite acceptible for a Cinebench run.

What are your temps like when idle?
If they're under 40 then you're more than fine.

If they're at 40-45, buying a good quality thermal paste like the thermal grizzly kronaut is a good cheap fix as most pre-applied thermal pastes aren't that great. This can already get u back down to 40-ish. If they're nearing 50 at idle, maybe a new cooler would be a good idea .

on idle they are never touching 40c. mostly 35-38. i will be gaming on this system when i buy gpu so with the fact that this is weak cpu in mind, we know that it will be at full load when i fire up a more intensive game. thats what worries me.
