Hello,

Just a quick question, as I'm very much a noob at this sort of stuff. I was planning on upgrading my CPU, motherboard, and memory as I have already upgraded my GPU earlier in the year. My current build has 16GB of RAM and my GPU has 8GB of RAM. I have heard that 16GB of RAM is plenty enough for gaming, however I also remember being told by a Knowhow technician at PC World that my RAM is probably contributing some bottlenecking for my GPU. Is he referring to my 8GB of RAM on my GPU, and if so how would I improve that?

Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.40 GHz
GPU: EVGA GTX 1080
RAM: 16 GB

Here are more details specs of my GPU:

Thanks for the help!

Solution
1. RAM speed on I7 6700 play the smallest role for gaming. Only noticeable on some benchmarking scores, not on game FPS. By using the fastest compatible RAM, you will see perhaps max 1-2 FPS more.
2. You will notice lower or more unstable FPS, if you do not have enough RAM. 16GB is however more enough.
3. Having short of VRAM will also cause lower, more unstable FPS or stutter. However, 8GB VRAM is plenty for today.

How important is RAM speed for an I7-8700K overclocked to 4.8GHz? It comes in this bundle I am interested in:
